David A. Buzzeo, B.Sc., FCIP, CRM

 

David has 47 years of experience in the risk management and insurance industry. He started his career as a company insurance adjuster, later moving to the ranks of the independent adjusters and then opening his own independent adjusting office. David has experience in all lines of insurance but concentrated in the commercial area specializing in: property, business interruption, oil and gas, liability and construction losses.

After 30 years David moved to the Alberta Government’s Risk Management and Insurance department where he rose to be the Director Risk Management Operation. David gained experience in all aspects of risk management during his tenure with the Alberta Government. After almost ten years, David left the Alberta Government and for the past three and a half years he has acted as an independent risk management and insurance consultant. As of January 1, 2017, David incorporated Alun Risk Consulting Ltd. to meet the needs of his expanding client base.

In addition to his education and work experience, David has taught insurance courses for the Insurance Institute of Canada, is a Past President of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, is a Past Provincial President of the Adjusters Association of Alberta, is a Past National President of the Canadian Independent Adjusters Association and was the Co-chair for the 2010 RIMS Canada Conference. David is currently a Sub-Council Member for the  Safety Codes Council.

Kenneth M. (Ken) Baker, CPA, CMA, ARM-E

 

Ken has 29 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including 11 years in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).  He began his career as an international accounting trainee, returning to Canada to pursue a career in operations accounting.  He has worked in the manufacturing, forestry, entertainment, banking, and municipal government industries, ultimately reaching the level of Controller at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA).

As AUMA Controller Ken started to gain experience in ERM and moved full-time into that field with the City of Edmonton, designing the City’s ERM program and leading it for seven years.  During his time with the City of Edmonton Ken honed his ERM skills and became known as a leader in the field.  Since leaving the City he has acted as a financial services and ERM consultant.  Ken is pleased to join the team at Alun Risk Consulting in February 2020, where his skill set expands the firm’s range of services.

Ken has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta School of Business and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.  Over and above his work experience and education, Ken has contributed to a textbook and a periodical on ERM, has presented to numerous organizations on the subject, and has provided advice on ERM for municipalities across Canada and the United States.  He has served on the Finance Committee of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) in New York.  Ken currently serves as Treasurer of RIMS’ Northern Alberta chapter (NARIMS) and is Finance Chair of the 2019 RIMS Canada Conference.

Greg Sasaki, P. ENG.

 

Greg has 29 years’ experience as a mechanical engineering professional in the petroleum transportation/storage and natural gas utility industries. He brings an analytical approach to assignments and with attention to detail that makes him ideal for carrying out loss control inspections.

Working with Enbridge Pipelines Inc. (2001 – 2019), as an Engineering Specialist, Greg has extensive experience with mechanical equipment, operations and maintenance, project management, pipeline construction and contractor management. Prior to 2001 Greg worked with Atco Gas Ltd. and Northwestern Utilities Limited. Greg is pleased to join the team at Alun Risk Consulting in February 2020, where his skill set will be deployed in the loss control inspections area.

Greg has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is an APEGA member. He also has Basics Instrumentation training from NAIT and has completed ASME 31.4 and CSA Z662 courses.

Will Burtenshaw, CAIB, CIP, CRM

 

 Will Burtenshaw has over 35 years’ experience in the commercial insurance and risk management field. He spent the last 16 years at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association as the Senior Director of Risk and Claims. AUMA is a reciprocal (pool), with over 700 insured members including larger cities, towns, and non-profits.  Business lines included property, liability, fleet, EIL, B&M, crime, and aviation.  

 

Will has insurance and risk designations including CAIB, CIP, and CRM. Will led the team which received the (Canadian) Insurance Business 2019 Award for Excellence in Risk Management. Will is a member of the Global Risk Management Institute, the Insurance Institute of Canada, NARIMS, RIMS, and PRIMA.

 

Will is a skilled presenter and has presented risk management topics at many conferences, including the AUMA annual convention, AUMA Public Risk Conference, CAMA, GFOA, LGAA, and the MIABC Risk Conference. He spent his early career as a loss control consultant working for insurance companies.
